In a move that addresses the increasing demand for exceptionally bright surface-mount LEDs in automotive applications, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc today announced a new series of super-red LEDs that combine a 628-nm wavelength with high levels of luminous intensity.
Built on GaAsP on GaP technology, the new Vishay Semiconductors TLMS super-red LEDs feature a typical wavelength of 628 nm and a 60° angle of half intensity. At a low 20-mA forward current, the TLMS3100 features typical luminous intensity of 15 mcd, while the TLMS3101 features a maximum luminous intensity of 25 mcd.
Luminous intensity ratio options of 2.0 or less and 1.6 or less per packaging unit ensuring the even lighting required by automotive applications such as indicators and dashboard backlighting. Devices in the TLMS series will also be used in telecommunications, office automation, audio and video systems, or in any system requiring flat backlighting for LCDs, switches, and symbols.
The devices are rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +100°C and feature a maximum junction temperature of 100°C.
Each LED measures 3.5 mm by 3.0 mm with a low 1.65-mm height profile. The devices' non-diffused lens, 2.4 mm in diameter, is excellent for coupling to light pipes and backlighting. Both the TLMS3100 and TLMS3101 are housed in the EIA- and ICE-standard P-LCC-2 package. Each LED consists of a lead-frame construction embedded in a white highly reflective thermoplastic package. The interior reflector is filled with a clear epoxy. CECC compatibility with infrared, vapor phase, and wave solder processes simplifies handling and automatic assembly.
Provided in 8-mm tape-and-reel form, samples and production quantities of the new, super-red TLMS LEDs are available now, with lead times of four weeks for larger orders. |
