New lines represent Company's most recent move to answer market needs

Owens Corning : 05 June, 2006  (Company News)
Owens Corning announced today that it has completed construction of two new fiberglass pipe insulation lines at OC Mexico, the company's recent $71.5 million manufacturing operation acquisition in Mexico City (formerly known as Vitro Fibras). The expansion, which doubles the plant's pipe capacity, is part of a series of strategic moves and significant investments by the company to fill a void in the North American fiberglass pipe marketplace caused by a major loss of market capacity in mid-2003.
The new lines, in combination with the following efforts over the last 12 months, provide a 30 percent increase in the industry's fiberglass pipe capacity, returning it to levels prior to last year's decline:

-- Upon acquisition, immediate productivity enhancements were made to
existing fiberglass pipe production lines at the Mexican facility. The

upgrades increased production and provided manufacturing capability to
produce Owens Corning patented SSL II(R) pipe jacket insulation and
closure system.
-- Process, control, and new jacketing system enhancements were completed
in the company's Newark, Ohio, facility, which both increased
production and provides the highest quality manufacturing platform the
industry has to offer.

The additional capacity resulting from these changes replaces products that, for the last year, Owens Corning has been importing through a global network of manufacturers to help ease the serious supply situation in the marketplace.

In addition to expanding capacity, Owens Corning also recently opened a distribution facility in the Dallas area, to minimize distribution costs and enhance speed of service for customers in the west by complementing the company's existing operation in Hebron, Ohio. New information technology at the centers allows customers to consolidate multiple products onto a truck and reduce lead times.

'This has been an incredibly challenging year for the industry, and we're excited to bring Owens Corning's infrastructure and assets to bear in providing this much needed capacity to the marketplace -- while at the same time enhancing our distribution capabilities and breadth of product offering,' said Jeff Craney, vice president of the company's commercial and industrial businesses. 'This is a clear reflection of our commitment to this industry and to meeting our customers' needs now and in the future.'

Owens Corning offers a full line of fiberglass pipe insulation products for low, medium and high temperature applications, including its exclusive VaporWick(R) pipe insulation, as well as numerous products for commercial interior/exterior wall, roof, air handling and foundation applications. With the acquisition of Vitro Fibras, the company's production capacity for duct wrap, FDM and metal building insulation expanded significantly.

Owens Corning is a world leader in building materials systems and composites systems. Founded in 1938, the company had sales of $5 billion in 2003. Additional information is available on Owens Corning's Web site at or by calling the company's toll-free General Information line: 1-800-GETPINK.
