New quality control reference materials range from LGC

LGC : 23 April, 2002  (Company News)
LGC has launched a new range of reference materials which are being developed in conjunction with the analytical market place to meet the growing need for independently produced reference materials for use in routine analysis.
The Quality Control Reference Materials range from LGC offers the ideal solution to meeting the requirements of regulatory bodies such as UKAS and ISO for traceability and comparability of analytical results. They provide an independently produced material, which is traceable to a recognised standard and have been priced to allow incorporation into the routine analyses which make up the bulk of daily laboratory work. All QCRMs are checked for homogeneity and stability, and are provided with documented reference values and analytical performance limits. They are generally produced with wider uncertainty limits than certified reference materials which enables them to be produced at a lower cost.

It is anticipated that QCRMs will reduce the need for laboratories to produce their own in-house materials which, although able to provide a record of the day-to-day consistency of results, do not provide an independent reference value linked to a recognised chemical measurement standard.

The type and number of QCRMs available is being expanded through a process of consultation with the analytical market place in order to ensure the availability of materials which most effectively meet the needs of the market.

John Marriott, Head of Analytical Technology at LGC commented, 'The quality of analytical measurements has always been crucial to the success of many different manufacturing industries throughout the world. Reference materials used to assure the quality of these measurements should ideally be a matrix-matched material traceable to a reliable reference standard. However, many analysts have commented that the prices of Certified Reference Materials, whilst being acceptable for use in method validation, are too high for more general use in quality control. The QCRM range aims to address this, having been specifically developed to allow use in the daily analyses which make up the bulk of most laboratories' activities. Therefore the QCRM range of reference materials will meet the need to ensure the quality of routine analytical measurements at an acceptable price.'
