New Sandvik Bioline cored wire for medical, electrical conductor leads
|
Sandvik Coromant UK
: 14 June, 2006 (New Product) |
|
A new metal-to-metal composite, Sandvik Bioline Cored Wire, as used in pacemaker and defibrillator leads, and which combines the optimum mechanical and physical properties of two materials, has been launched by Sandvik. The new Sandvik Bioline product is a composite of an outer Cobalt/Nickel/Chromium/Molybdenum alloy tube and a pure silver core. The outer component has excellent biocompatibility and fatigue properties, whilst the inner silver core provides high electrical efficiency, electrical conductivity and low resistance. |

Produced through several drawing and annealing processes to achieve the finished sizes and material properties, the new Sandvik Bioline product has the particular customer manufacturing advantages of a high quality surface finish and spool lengths averaging over 20,000 feet (6000m).
Typically the silver core represents 25% of the cross-sectional area and the outer tube, 75%, but the ratio can be tailored to customer requirements, depending on the wire diameter and the product performance characteristics required. The flexibility of the Sandvik production capability offers design advantages and opportunities to pacemaker and defibrillator lead manufacturers to make smaller and more efficient lead wires.
Electrical functions can be enhanced and pacemaker battery life can be extended. Improved conductivity provides the potential for reducing wire diameters and developing multi-channel leads for improved performance. Biocompatibility and fatigue life mean that leads can function for extended periods without replacement.
Sandvik Bioline Cored Wire is available in a size range from 0.001' (0.025mm) diameter up to 0.005' (0.127mm) in both round and flat wire product forms. Alternative cores, like gold, platinum, tantalum, tungsten or other alloys, can be developed and wire can be supplied in any of the standard PTFE, Polyimide, Polyamide, Polyethylene and FEP coatings.
Sandvik manufactures and distributes the Sandvik Bioline family of stainless steel, titanium and special alloy products for the production of medical devices. As well as wire, products include tube, strip, profile shapes and cannulated bar. |
