Owens Corning introduces shingle technology that delivers faster installation and highest wind

Owens Corning : 11 June, 2006  (Company News)
Owens Corning, the manufacturer of America's No. 1 brand of shingles, has announced a new technology for its Oakridge PRO(R) Series Shingle that offers faster installation, higher wind performance and a better appearance immediately after installation. The higher wind ratings offer contractors an attractive solution that complies with new, more stringent building codes in high-wind areas. Initially available in the Northeast, SureNail(R) Technology is currently planned to be rolled out to the rest of the U.S. market over the course of the next several years.
SureNail Technology includes the following enhancements:

SureNail wider nailing area with the industry's most clearly defined nailing zone, Embedded SureNail strips clearly define where to nail, giving the installer a larger target, eliminating any confusion about nailing boundaries and speeding the installation process. Faster installation can enhance profitability and fewer nailing errors can mean fewer call backs.

Highest wind resistance rating of any entry-level laminated shingle, Instead of the shingle sealant gripping only rough granules of the shingle below, innovative placement of Owens Corning's TruBond(R) sealant grips the shingle's SureNail strip, providing double the bond strength of our previous Oakridge(R) shingle. This allows Oakridge PRO 30(R) shingles to carry an industry-leading wind resistance rating of 110 MPH, and 130 MPH for Oakridge PRO 40(R) and Oakridge Pro 50(R) shingles.

Instant, flat installation, Unlike most laminated shingles, strategic placement of the SureNail strip eliminates humps or 'fish mouths' typically associated with newly-applied laminate shingles, providing homeowners a great looking roof immediately, even in colder climates, helping to reduce the chance of call backs.

'We're successful only when our customers are successful, and by providing technology that allows faster and more profitable installation, and a reduced chance of call backs, we know we're delivering solutions that truly make a difference to their businesses,' said Bert Elliott, Residential Roofing Shingles product manager. 'This product is truly what innovation is all about and what we know our customers expect from us as an industry leader.'

The unique color blends and curb appeal of Oakridge PRO Series shingles are compatible with a wide variety of architectural styles and personal tastes, allowing professionals the ability to create distinctive look for their customers. The range of shadow depth and color options offer degrees of visual appeal from a soft, muted look on Oakridge PRO 30 shingles, added shadow definition on Oakridge PRO 40, to a thick, dramatic look on Oakridge PRO 50 shingles. Each delivers ultimate peace of mind for the homeowner because all Oakridge PRO Series shingles come with class A UL fire rating, the highest in the industry.
