Random Polypropylene (PP) grade for high performance bottle applications

Borealis A/S : 28 October, 2002  (New Product)
RB206MO is a new random Polypropylene (PP) grade strengthening Borealis
Even at high temperatures, RB206MO maintains excellent stiffness which means that it allows high productivity on hot filling lines. Another feature of RB206MO is that due to its superior stiffness, bottle weight can be reduced which provides savings in both material and transport costs. The higher temperature resistance of the unique additive package used in RB206MO results in less cleaning of the deventing channels, mould surfaces, die and the stationary mandrel. Because it is easy to extrude and has a high top load performance as well as very good nucleation, RB206MO is extremely well suited to high performance production lines, where it also offers significant savings in materials for multi-layer bottles.

The newly developed additive package in RB206MO means that the plate out effect, additive migration and resulting optical defects, are virtually eliminated. In addition, with the very effective nucleation agent, this contributes to highly consistent gloss and transparency in the finished product, better than those made from other nucleated random PP types, even when they are made from the same moulds.

RB206MOs specific combination of physical properties and superior processing characteristics makes it the ideal random PP grade for hot-fill applications. The main benefits are its excellent stiffness and heat resistance. This means that RB206MO can now be used in applications where the finished bottles need to be sterilised, such as in the food industry.

Its stiffness, which allows creative designs, and its excellent transparency also make it a natural choice for the cosmetics industry, where appearance is extremely important.
