Borealis launches two new product ranges based on its unique Borecene technology - Borecene Compact and Paintable Borecene PE resins for rotomoulding
The rotational moulding industry is continuously seeking for polyethylene (PE) resins that are easy to handle and that have better flow properties. Borecene Compact is an improvement over Borealisí existing Ďblackí Borecene powder and other powders which are ground down from pellets. It uses unique, Borealis patented technology which entirely bypasses the grinding stage. By eliminating this stage, Borecene Compact is dust-free which improves both product quality and the quality of the working environment. And as its name implies, one of Borecene Compactís attributes is that it takes up less volume which makes it simpler to transport and to store.

Borecene Compactís enhanced, smoother flow makes it particularly suitable for complex moulds with narrow spaces and threads, such as those for technical applications, automotive parts and tanks. Because it is a powder rather than pellets, Borecene Compact enables rotational moulds to achieve shorter cycle times, better surface finish and fewer wall bubbles, all of which lead to improved mechanical properties and a more consistent finished product. Borecene Compact is available in three black grades, RM 7406 (MFR2 4.0g/10min and density of 940kg/m3), RM 8406 (MFR2 6.0g/10min and density of 940kg/m3) and RM 8346 (MFR2 6.0g/10min and density of 934kg/m3). Material tests have already shown significant advantages in several existing applications, e.g. in automotive air ducts with very intricate shapes, Borecene Compactís enhanced flow characteristics deliver excellent wall thickness distribution and surface appearance.

Borealis is also launching a new Borecene material with improved adhesion properties. Developed in partnership with Arplas GmbH of Wolfen in Germany, it is produced using plasma treatment technology. This changes the chemical structure of the powderís surface from a non-polar to a polar structure, making it hydrophilic rather than hydrophobic, and thereby increasing its surface tension. Paintable Borecene is designed for applications requiring painting, coating or adhesive fixtures. The material provides far better long-term adhesion properties and higher quality. It is not subject to the variations in product quality or shape which can result from manually controlled hot flame methods used to prepare parts for painting. In addition, it has excellent adhesion to Polyurethane (PU) foam.
