Right first time training DVD provides affordable access to industry expertise

Akzo Nobel : 29 August, 2006  (New Product)
Akzo Nobel, in conjunction with AVS Television Productions Ltd, launched the
Filmed in the Akzo Nobel training centre at Abingdon and on site at Karl Vella, Preston, the DVD has been put together by experts in bodyshop training. The DVD is split into two sections:

The Learning Zone
The Learning Zone gives an overview of the entire repair process, associated costs and profitability. It clearly explains how the costs of a repair break down and how the bodyshop achieves a profit, emphasising the importance of performing a repair ‘right first time’ and as efficiently as possible. The Learning Zone consists of 18 chapters which look at each stage of the repair process from the estimate, the tools used and correct maintenance of bodyshop equipment.

A Typical Repair
This shows a best practice typical repair, performed at Akzo Nobel. By following the procedures demonstrated, bodyshops can reduce costly rework and members of staff can compare their own repair techniques with the standards that are on the DVD. Students can learn tips, techniques and how to avoid common mistakes.

“To run as effective and profitable an operation as possible, good training is of paramount importance to the bodyshop, helping retain staff and working to a high standard whilst maintaining profitability,” commented Gill Gordon, Marketing Manager at Akzo Nobel. “We got involved in this project because we believe passionately in investing in staff. The DVD is a cost effective way for bodyshops and colleges to access our expertise.”

Karl Vella commented, “The DVD is well put together and the information is clear and concise without too much technical jargon.”

A special package is also available for training colleges which includes a CD ROM in addition to the DVD. The CD ROM contains all of the video clips in the DVD, plus 28 additional images and the scripts for each programme. Lecturers can use this material to create their own powerpoint presentations for all NVQ level students.

Subtitles have been included on the “Right First Time” DVD as a standard item following feedback from a leading training college, to ensure that deaf and partially hearing students can easily access the material on the DVD.
