Roberto Cavalli chooses the modern elegance of DuPont

Du Pont Engineering Polymers : 01 March, 2003  (Company News)
Florentine designer Roberto Cavalli has used a DuPont
The colour, selected from the DuPont™ Tyvek® Deco line, is Silver – a shimmering hue that immediately conveys a refined yet low-key look.

Cavalli has used a satin-finish silver box with a special and delightful touch – one of the distinctive features of DuPont™ Tyvek®, together with the typical randomly distributed and non-directional “fibrous” texture that gives DuPont’s nonwoven fabric its unique swirl effect. This is in keeping with the move towards a “soft touch” that is particularly in vogue for cosmetics and luxury items.

I.T.F., the brand licensee, entrusted the packaging project and execution to Cartografica Pusterla, while the German firm BC-O (Brand Communication-One Gmbh&Co.KK) handled the lamination of Tyvek® on paper.

“Roberto Cavalli didn’t think twice about choosing the Tyvek® Deco solution for this packaging, which opens like a book. Tyvek® Deco is an unusual and tactile product that is not instantly recognisable, one that encourages the consumer to save the simple box and keep using it,” explains Dr. Roberto Martone, Managing Director of I.T.F. The aggressive touch and irony that are part of the Cavalli image are fully conveyed by the thin zebra-striped sheath covering the packaging and underscoring the sheen of the plug.

Tyvek® Deco is a development of the DuPont™ Tyvek® range of nonwoven fabrics made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) using a polymer flash-spinning process that has been patented by DuPont. The Deco line is particularly versatile from an aesthetic standpoint and has been used with optimum results for innovative applications in the packaging and graphics sectors.

In recent months, Tyvek® nonwoven fabric has become available not only in standard white, but also in Silver and Amber and, on request and for larger quantities, in Bronze, Copper, Red, Sea Green and Mauve as well as customised colours.

The product’s application flexibility has been confirmed by the variety of possible finishes. Like all Tyvek® brand items, the products from the new line can be cut, embossed, perforated, stitched, printed, sealed and laminated. This line also offers the same performance as other Tyvek® products: it is light, sturdy, puncture- and tear-resistant, permeable to vapour, water repellent, rot-resistant and biological inert.

This material was processed by Cartografica Pusterla SpA. Established in 1880, today Cartografica Pusterla is a company that has earned ISO 9002 certification. It specialises in producing mono-material (paperboard or plastic) folding cases, covered boxes, cases and display folders. It offers a complete range of paper goods whose lines, colours and surface finishes evoke the value of what they contain. In 1999, it further strengthened its position internationally with its take-over of the French company Coffrets Création, which specialises in luxury packaging, thereby increasing its production to 50 million pieces a year.
