Rohm and Haas AMBERLITE (TM) FPX technology improves purity & yield of plant extracts

Within the current technology, plant extracts have a very limited purity. AMBERLITE (TM) FPX technology is particularly suited for the recovery of valuable substances such as polyphenols from plant primary and secondary process streams.
Polyphenols are derived from a variety of plants such as green tea but also from fruits such as pomegranate, blueberries or cranberries or from wine must. Extraction of polyphenols is difficult due to the low concentration and complicated mixture of materials in the extract. Rohm and Haas technology targets compounds such as polyphenols for adsorption selectively These compounds are recovered from the adsorbent to produce a higher purity and greater yield. The product obtained is thus both concentrated and purified. One example, while the level the purity of polyphenol from pomegranate was 3 % in the feed, after selective adsorption on AMBERLITE (TM) FPX resins the purity of the extract achieved 52%.
AMBERLITE (TM) FPX resins unique pore structures allow optimum loading and recovery, allowing our proven processing technology to be characterized with low operating costs.

Food grade solvents are used to recover the purified polyphenols and these solvents can be recycled. Sugar and other substances are eliminated. AMBERLITE (TM) FPX technology can also be used for the recovery or removal of specific compounds and thus for the decolorization and deodorization of products.
