Saddleback College and Materialise of Belgium Partner for Education in Rapid Prototyping & Manufacturing Technology

Materialise NV : 17 February, 2005  (Company News)
Saddleback College of Mission Viejo, California, and Materialise, located near Brussels, Belgium, a world leader in software development for rapid prototyping and industrial design applications, announce that they've entered a partnership that will expand Saddleback's broad training resources.
'There is a growing need for engineers skilled in rapid manufacturing technologies. Saddleback College is responding to this need by providing college programs with the purpose of lean product design (LPD), rapid prototyping (RP) and rapid manufacturing (RM) education and by offering training and support for companies looking to integrate digital manufacturing practices into their business' says Dean of Business Science, Workforce & Economic Development, Ken Patton.

To support this effort, Saddleback College cooperates with leading RP machine manufacturers that include SONY Manufacturing Systems America, Inc., Z Corporation, Stratasys, and 3D Systems to identify skill sets necessary to be a successful RP technician and author procedural guides for the end users of the equipment. Saddleback College has responded to the identified needs of product development and digital design by providing training and assistance in lean product development. Materialise, the market-leader in RP software and a driving force in the Rapid Manufacturing industry, is its newest partner. With this new partner, Saddleback College will be able to assist companies in easily producing designs that are compatible with Rapid Prototyping technologies.

'We are very pleased with this partnership. Materialise strives to offer its users an excellent support service, and Saddleback College's Magics trainings will definitely benefit our customer in the region,' says Tom De Bruyne, Materialise sales manager for California.

In the year 2000, the term 'Rapid Manufacturing' started to emerge in literature, but it is only recently that the high volume of end products created from 3D printers has gained worldwide significance. Once more, Materialise is a leading player in this technological evolution. For example, in the hearing aid sector, millions of personalized hearing aids have already been created with dedicated design automation software from Materialise.

'Being at the forefront of the industry, we need to go once more through the challenges of removing barriers. While doing so, we gain unprecedented experience from which all our customers can benefit. With the opening of an office in California, Materialise wants to be able to better support its customers on the west coast. We appreciate that Saddleback College assists us in removing the learning curve, thus helping to open the opportunities of Forward Engineering and Rapid Manufacturing to the industry in California,' says Managing Director of Materialise, Fried Vancraen.

For 15 years, Materialise has developed software applications that enable and optimise the advanced use of rapid prototyping, tooling and manufacturing techniques. These applications offer a competitive advantage by driving efficiency and cutting costs.

Saddleback College has grown its rapid prototyping program over the past two years and has demonstrated that it will be a leader in producing the trained manpower desperately needed for this burgeoning industry that impacts the world.
