Sandvik develops PTFE coated wire for medical devices
|
Sandvik Coromant UK
: 17 June, 2006 (New Product) |
|
PTFE wire is used in many applications, where wire, catheters, and cannulas interact with each other and the body, to reduce friction and provide easier movement. The new, high quality, lubrication coating for Sandvik Bioline wire can be applied in thicknesses from 0.00005' (0.00127mm) to .0005' (.0127mm), to wires from 0.001' (0.025mm) up to 0.030' (0.762mm) diameter. It can also be applied to wires in any medical grade material including all the stainless alloys and super alloys used in the medical device industry. |

Sandvik has extended its production capability for Sandvik Bioline medical wire to include PTFE coating.
The new PTFE coating is part of Sandvik's continuous, 'flood coating' process i.e. it is applied to the wire before being formed into a medical device. This guarantees a complete coating over the wire surface, which is both consistent and extremely tenacious, and gives the wire quality and performance benefits over 'electrostatic PTFE spray coating' techniques applied to the outside surface of a finished device.
The PTFE coating also imparts excellent dielectric properties as an insulator.
Typical colouring of the PTFE coating process is green, although clear finishes and other colours can also be offered.
Flexibility in manufacturing processes and advanced product development capabilities has placed Sandvik Bioline coated wire at the forefront of precision wire products for medical applications.
All demand specific material properties, both in the wire and the coating. The Sandvik Bioline product programme offers a wide range of wire material grades and, in addition to PTFE, can apply Polyimide, Polyamide, Polyethylene, FEP and customer specified coatings.
Sandvik manufactures and distributes the Sandvik Bioline family of stainless steel, titanium and special alloy products for the production of medical devices. As well as wire, products include tube, strip, profile shapes and cannulated bar. |
