Gatti Giuseppe snc, specialist steel cabinet fabricators, have recently introduced 3M VHB double-sided tapes into the assembly of stainless steel cabinets for their client Tecniplast Gazzada. The use of these tapes has, over recent months, revolutionised assembly operations and significantly reduced production costs, while at the same time meeting all test requirements.
During the mid-70s, the firm became involved in stainless steel welding operations for Teniplast Gazzada, which produces shelving for research laboratories. Over the years this involvement has grown and currently around 80 percent of Gatti Guiseppe’s work still comes from Tecniplast, although today they undertake the entire construction of shelving for animal units and hospital cupboards. Gatti Guiseppe also provides the piping and air couplings for animal unit shelving.
Radical change
However, construction has undergone a radical change in the last months, making the company more competitive and better able to meet the needs of their clients. Up until five months ago, the assembly of parts for any kind of job or ‘omega’ strengthening work was carried out entirely by welding or the use of rivets. Within the last year, they were introduced to 3M VHB 3M double-sided tapes and since then the old technology of welding or use of bolts is, where possible, being gradually phased out.
Giulio Frigerio, one of the firm’s partners, pointed out that it must be borne in mind that Gatti Guiseppe products are used in special sectors such as research laboratories and it is therefore important, particularly when it has been specifically requested, to test every new product using the double-sided tape system before supplying it to the client.
He confirms that to date the company has had only positive and gratifying results, and he is therefore convinced that it will not be long before all the parts of the cupboards for animal units and other products used in hospitals or elsewhere, will be assembled with 3M tapes. Furthermore, the company has gained substantial economic advantages, due to the significant reduction in assembly time, which this kind of technology offers such a company and, consequently, their clients. |
