Thomas Swan & Company has been certified as an approved supplier of high-quality carbon nanotubes having passed a strict supply chain certification programme designed and managed by the US based Zyvex Corporation.
Zyvex’s comprehensive programme verifies quality and consistency of commercially available carbon nanotubes using market accepted analytical techniques. In the absence of any official quality standards within the carbon nanomaterials industry, the approval is an important achievement for Thomas Swan, which began commercial production of single-wall carbon nanotubes in April 2004.
Founded in 1926, Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd. is one of the UK’s leading performance chemical manufacturers. The company has spent over 5 years developing its carbon nanomaterials business in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and is currently capable of manufacturing over 2kg of purified single-wall carbon nanotubes per month which are sold under the trade name of Elicarb® SW.
Thomas Swan is primarily interested in providing carbon nanotubes as a raw material, without intellectual property constraints, for use in a wide range of industrial and academic applications from advanced composites for the aerospace industry to improved catalyst supports for fuel cells.
“We have put considerable effort into our quality control in order to achieve a consistent, high-purity product,” said Harry Swan, Nanomaterials Business Manager at Thomas Swan. “Today’s announcement is the first independent verification that we have achieved our goal.”
Zyvex Corporation, based in Richardson, Texas, USA, is the first molecular nanotechnology company and aims to be the leading worldwide supplier of tools, products, and services that enable adaptable, affordable, and molecularly precise manufacturing. Zyvex commercialises nanotechnology to address real-world applications with high growth potential. |
