UCSC

Honeywell Specialty Materials : 10 May, 2006  (New Product)
Honeywell announced today its Enovate zero ozone-depleting blowing agent, used in rigid closed-cell insulating spray foam, was selected by Rocky Mountain Custom Homes to help insulate its
Closed-cell spray foam insulation for the project will be supplied by UCSC, Ltd., a pioneer in research, development, manufacture and commercialization of high quality polyurethane foam systems. UCSC is based in Phoenix, Ariz.

“UCSC’s Durafoam, formulated with Honeywell Enovate, is one of the most advanced building insulation technologies available,” said Ken Gayer, global business director for foam blowing agents at Honeywell. “Its closed-cell structure provides exceptional resistance to heat-flow, blocks air leaks, improves moisture and condensation control, and adds structural strength with its physical rigidity and glue-like adhesion. For homeowners, this means energy savings, improved comfort, and the peace-of-mind that comes with high quality construction that is built to last.”

Honeywell’s Enovate blowing agent is a hydrofluorocarbon and is a critical component of closed-cell insulation. The blowing agent allows closed cell insulation to be sprayed on and also provides the majority of the foam’s high insulating properties.

The “Circle of Life” home, designed by Rocky Mountain Custom Homes, is considered ‘Cutting Edge Contemporary’ in style. Additionally, the home will be designated a Built Green home, meaning it must meet criteria specified by Built Green Colorado for improved energy efficiency, durability, reduced maintenance, better indoor air quality and sustainability, all with less pollution.

Built Green Colorado is administered by the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver, and supported by the Governor’s Office of Energy Management and Conservation, E-Star Colorado, the Colorado Association of Home Builders and many other local HBAs.

“We are extremely proud to work with Rocky Mountain Custom Homes and to help support this high-performance home,” said Stephanie M. Gssime, marketing manager for UCSC. “Events like the Denver Parade of Homes, where homebuyers can experience how modern homes integrate design and materials to conserve resources and create more comfortable living spaces, are a definite win-win for everybody.”

Closed-cell spray foam insulation offers homes a wide range of advantages and benefits, including reduced air infiltration, better moisture and condensation control, better structural integrity, and less energy usage for heating and cooling. Such homes also can be served by smaller heating and air conditioning units and, in most cases, a separate vapor barrier is not necessary.

The 2006 Denver Parade of Homes, presented by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Denver, will take place July 29 through September 4 and include seven new custom homes that will employ the latest trends, technology, design and architectural innovations in residential construction.
