UK Nanotechnology and Coatings Industry Conference to take place in October

Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN) : 26 September, 2013  (Company News)
The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), in partnership with the British Coatings Federation (BCF) and the Paint Research Association (PRA), is announcing details of the Fourth Annual Nanotechnology and the Coatings Industry Conference, to be held in Nottingham on 8 October.
Nanotechnology based coating products have shown remarkable growth in recent years with BCC Research reporting in January 2010 that the nanotechnology based coatings market was nearly $2.9 billion in 2009 and that it was projected to grow to $17.9bn in 2015, a compound annual growth rate of 39.5%. Delegates at the conference will receive insights into new nanomaterial developments and novel process routes, both to the manufacture of nanomaterials and the conversion of these nanomaterials into commercial formulations.

Dr Barry Park, Theme Manager - Chemical and Consumer Products at the NanoKTN, will introduce the conference and speakers who will be discussing new and exciting products across a wide range of coatings applications. In addition, there will be talks on characterisation techniques and the current status on regulatory issues.

Speakers at the conference include leading companies and universities including:
  • AkzoNobel Decorative Paints
  • Humboldt University of Berlin
  • Loughborough University
  • Taylor Hobson
  • Defra
  • NMP Contact Point
  • Malvern Instruments
  • Empa Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology
  • MoD
  • Promethean Particles
  • NSG/Pilkington
Park explains, “For our fourth annual nanotechnology and coatings industry event we have brought together the leading players in nanomaterials academic and industry to illustrate the major commercial impact that nanomaterials are delivering in the coatings industry. We hope that the event delivers a platform for the UK community to discuss the benefits and challenges faced by the market and offer the opportunity to form partnerships to bring even more nano-enhanced coatings to commercialisation.”

The presentations will be complemented by a session of technology pitches from some the exhibitors, while applications are also being sought from academics active in nano-enabled coatings to display a poster at the conference.

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) is the sole trade association for the decorative, industrial and powder coatings, printing inks and wallcoverings manufacturing industry in the UK providing training programmes, regulatory and business support, and practical guidance. PRA provides a combination of market and technical expertise to support innovation and growth across the global surface coatings industry, including information services and publications, and independent testing and certification.
