US stockpile sales to resume

ITRI (Internationsl Tin Research Institute) : 22 October, 2012  (Special Report)
Sales of tin and other materials (mainly ferro-alloys) from the US strategic stockpile are due to re-commence in the new fiscal year, according to a newly released annual materials plan quoted by American Metal Market.

According to a newly released annual materials plan quoted by American Metal Market, DLA Strategic Materials  tin disposals were suspended in August 2008, having averaged around 8,000 tpy in the 1990s and 2000s. The remaining quantity of tin held in the stockpile is only 4,020 tonnes. 

DLA Strategic Materials can sell up to 65,204 short tons of ferrochrome during fiscal 2013, which began on 1 October. The agency, based in Fort Belvoir, Va, can also sell 100,000 tons of high-carbon ferromanganese and 222,025 tons of metallurgical grade manganese ore. It also includes the sale of 5.07 million pounds of tungsten ores and concentrates.
