A new crystallographic technique called time-resolved crystallography is being used at the University of Leeds to transform scientists’ ability to observe how molecules work. The method allows reaearchers to observe changes within the structure of molecules. Although fast time-resolved crystallography (Laue crystallography) has previously been possible, it has required advanced instrumentation that is only available at three sites worldwide. Only a handful of proteins have been studied using the traditional technique.

LFPlus materials tester expands at top and bottom

The extremely versatile LFPlus universal single column materials testing machines from Lloyd Instruments can be configured for larger or non-standard shaped samples and for high elongation materials. An extended column version of the LFPlus is available which increases the crosshead travel range from 500 mm to 750 mm. This allows the testing of high elongation, ductile materials such as plastics or rubber or longer than normal test specimens. The LFPlus test speeds range from 0.05 to 1270 mm/min and accuracy greater than 0.2% apply equally to both the extended version and the standard configuration.
